Crystal Drawing Instrumentation Assembly and Testing
The furnace temperature profile was done with a K type thermocouple with an uncertainty of 1 degree Celsius over 1000 degrees. With this in mind we get the thermal gradient corresponding to the linked file. The outside temperature is collected from an off center position. This is the ideal location for any electronics that may be located near the hole in the furnace. Without a fan the temperatures are manageable for the electronics but the fan would allow for the electronics to last longer.
Kaon Data Analysis from Spring 2018 Run
The scripts for analysis are still in the production stage. With the help of Mark Jones the script is being modified to make use of data collected. Once the script is finished it will be used to show data about the Kaons and Pions going through the detector. with that data the research about these strange particles can be done. The script first has to be calibrated with the data from the test runs with carbon, hydrogen, and other materials being hit by the beam. Once the beam collides with the material electrons are sent flying toward the detectors. These electrons are what we are basing out calibration on. We need to only find good electrons (ones that came from the collision) which we do through the process of cutting the histograms with calculations about where the electron is coming from and how fast its going. Once the calibration is done for the HMS and the SHMS we can move onto analyzing Pion and Kaon data.
